It is a common belief that universities
should spend their money to aid social activities for students. However, some people
argue that universities should invest on the food at university cafeterias. This
essay discusses both views of this contentious argument and then I will state my
opinion.
To begin with, there are two essential
reasons why universities have to spend their funds on social activities. Undoubtedly,
social activities provide opportunities for students to make new relationships.
As it is really difficult for students from different faculties to meet each
other, social activities are definitely chances to build up new relationships. Secondly,
throughout social activities, students can obtain abilities to cooperate with
others and leadership as well. For instance, when students play football together
as a social activity, they can learn how to work together to achieve a win.
Nevertheless, it is undeniable that food universities
spending much money on university cafeterias is worth more. It is important to
consider that students mostly spend their day in the university and they
usually do not have much time to find good restaurants around the university. Hence,
they usually eat lunch and dinner in school cafeterias, and it is important
that the quality of the food is satisfactory. Additionally, as university students
do not have large amount of money in their pocket, it is essential that
universities invest much on their cafeterias and provide affordable and wide range
of foods for the students.
In conclusion, I believe that both arguments
have their merits. On balance, however, I believe that universities should
invest more on their cafeterias rather than spending money to aid social
activities as students need good quality of foods as well as wide range of foods.
