It is a common belief high school students should
only pay attention to their study at school. However, I firmly believe a community
service volunteer work allows high school students to take part in social
activities in advance before becoming adults and lets them have strong responsibility by undergoing social relationships outside school.
To begin with, working as a volunteer for community
service helps students experience a wide range of jobs that help them have a wise decision for the future. In this contemporary setting, a career decision
is a fundamental and crucial subject that plays a vital role for one’s future
happiness and success. In order to make a right decision, it is crucial to have
a range of thoughts coming from various experiences. Take the example of Korean
ministry of education’s policy. To meet graduation requirement, students are
supposed to take part in volunteer activities without pay and they can grasp
the roles of jobs they are interested in by choosing what they do on
their own. According to a recent research conducted by Korea ministry of
education, it turned out these experiences contributes to decrease the rate of
suffering setback from their real jobs. Thus, it is necessary to let them be
aware of and comprehend about their future jobs through unpaid community service
to reduce cases of failure.
On top of that, a participation in community
service is essential to build students’ sense of responsibility. The sense of
responsibility that is gained from social relationship makes adolescents be a
great member of society by being trustable person and that finally helps
everyone lives in a better world. Furthermore, if the students thought
knowledge and skills are only important means to live, they would have problem
when they try to get along with others due to lack of trust. Therefore, it is
important to become a reliable person through continuous communication with
others by attending the programmes.
To sum up, it is apparent that the volunteer programmes
at high school will have significant contribution for improving students’ sense
of responsibility and giving a better comprehension for their future jobs. For
these reason, the compulsory unpaid community service programmes are necessary
for the high school students.
