Q: who is the person you most admire. tell me about this person.
My Hero, My Father
by Lisa simpson
When I was a child, I enjoyed reading a great number of autobiographies. I found fine qualities in each person and wanted to learn from him or her. However, as I grew up, I began to respect my father more and more. I admire my father for three main reasons: his passion about work, his devotion to his family, and his compassion.
Above all, my father is an enthusiastic worker. Even though his regular hours of work are 40 hours a week, he willingly does extra work at home every day. Whenever he talks about his recent publications, speeches, or seminars, he seems to be a man of joy and excitement. When he holds a conference, he does not sleep for a few days and still stays energetic and bright. He even looks quite young, and my relatives assume that his love of work makes him appear so.
Although my father spends a considerable amount of time working, he never forgets the importance of family life. He is rather a devoted father and husband. For instance, he spends most of his income on my mother, my dog, and me. Instead of spending his money on a trip, new clothes, or his hobbies, he keeps asking me and my mom to enjoy traveling, shopping, and learning something new for fun. He seems to be pleased whenever my mom and I follow this suggestion. Besides, when my mom is sick, depressed, or angry, he is the one who listens to her carefully and does whatever my mom asks: cleaning the house, cooking, and nursing her. He never gets upset when my mom expresses anger toward him. He simply embraces her. Moreover, he calls me on the phone every day to ask how I feel and to tell me how much he loves me. He makes endless efforts to find wise, successful people in order to introduce me to them. He expects me to learn a lot from those people.
Not only is my father devoted to his family and work, but also he cares about people who are in a predicament. For example, he visits an orphanage once a month and donates food and clothes. He gets along well with children there and remembers the names and faces of all of them. What is more, he helps his childhood friends who are in need. He tried to help sell his friend’s books, to find a job for his friend, and to help prepare for his friend’s election. He also allowed his friend to stay in our house until the friend found a permanent place to live. He was generous about providing foods and clothes to the friend. This seems to be an unusual attitude when I consider many people who only care about successful people or their co-workers. In addition, he often prays for those who are suffering from famine, violence, and diseases.
To conclude, I have genuine respect for my father and keep him as a role model. I would like to be both a work-oriented and family-oriented person just like him. I would also hope to be always a warm-hearted person, especially toward those who are suffering. Observing and appreciating him, I hope I will become a person similar to him.
