The idea that historical periods are "sets of coherences" is a standard notion among professional historians, but it has
seldom been set forth (i)_______ as in K. Rabb's The Last Days of the Renaissance. Circling artfully around his subject,
the author provides general treatments, in chronological sequence, of the periods that both preceded and (ii)_______
the Renaissance, on the assumption that it would be impossible otherwise to characterize the age at the center of his inquiry.
(i) (ii)
A. with undeniable strength D. antedated
B. with grace or readability E. succeeded
C. with a grave taciturnity F. exemplified
