It is undoubtedly that most young people use social media such as Facebook and Instargram etc. They habitually access to them and spend excessive time on them. I personally think although there are several advantages of this situation, they are not so significant that people should refrain from using social media.
One of the advantages of using social media is that people can maintain their relationships with friends. It's because they can easily keep in touch with friends by just clicking 'like' for their posts and sending a message without any costs. Furthermore, because anyone can be friends with each other in social media, people can have a chance to extend their range of relationships. According to a research from a corporation which made Facebook, more than 65 percent of users think positively about making internet friends and already have some experiences.
However, the relationships established and kept good through social media cannot be continuous for long period. Also, because they cannot see each others eyes and hear real tone of voices, there are much more possibilities of misunderstandings than in real world. In addition, there are drawbacks of invasion of privacy. Because people can easily see and search for other people's information, social media users are suffering from privacy problems. Actually it was reported that the average number of cases of privacy violation per person per a year is more than 1,000.
I would therefore argue that although there are advantages in using social media, they are outweighed by disadvantages. |
