It is
a common belief that it is risky to let children take care of their pet by
themselves. However, there is a more persuasive argument that having them to
tend a pet has many benefits.
On the
one hand, it can be dangerous to children taking care of a pet because
sometimes animals are not predictable. Kids may not be mature enough to protect
themselves from sudden behaviors by a pet. Moreover, they might not know how to
act and communicate with pets in proper way, and it can make the pets upset. In
this reason, there is always a risk which can be occurred safety problems.
Nevertheless,
I firmly believe that letting children care for their pet on their own is a
good idea in several reasons. First of all, it is helpful to kids to cultivate
their responsibility. They have to give a proper attention to their animals,
such as feeding, walking, bathing, and some pediatricians insist that children
can feel that they became a parent when they tend the animals, and this is one
of the best way to teach children the responsibility. Also, there is an advantage
on children’s mental health. Their stress
can be alleviated by interacting with animals, making their emotion be stable. There
is a study conducted in Korea in 2000s, and researchers found that taking care
of animals was helpful to children who were too hyperactive, making them more
prudent and stable. In the research, the subjects answered that they felt like
pets were understanding their feelings and giving them consolidation. This is
the reason why many hospitals have adopting animal therapy to treat some
patients with mental disease.
To sum
up, while it is apparent that there are some safety problems to letting
children care for their pets, it is undeniable that there are more advantages
than disadvantages.
