It is generally thought
that sport plays an important role in making people with different cultural
background gather together. Many of international sport competitions
particularly contribute to encouraging friendship between participants. In my
opinion, I believe that sport events help to cultivate a more peaceful
atmosphere on a global scale.
To begin with,
sport-based competitions can help to relieve strain between nations. Although
those who kept animosity to certain countries for decades, in terms of politics
or religion, they can create a more relaxing attitude by participating in these
global sports festivals. A good example of this can be seen in the fact that
South Korea and North Korea, which constitutes the only politically split
nation in the global village, not only delegated their athletes to take part together
in the Winter Olympics but also even allowed them to compete with international
players as one team in a specific sport. This has been estimated as a
cornerstone for the current reconciliation mood between the two nations.
Another point to be
considered is that the sportsmanship itself encourages countries to build up
friendliness. In other words, while sport players try their best to win over
other players during the competition, the spirit of sportsmen leads them to
hang around with each other regardless of their results or nationalities. For
example, some of athletes who help an exhausted player of the opponent team
show that sports not just focus on victory, but also emphasise friendship as human
beings. In fact, as a result, more cultural and business trades take place
between those countries after sports competitions are over.
In conclusion, I firmly
believe that sport plays an imperative role in making up a peaceful mood and
friendship between countries. (287 words) |
