In
modern society, it is common to see people who live abroad where they are
forced to speak a foreign language. Opinions are divided over whether this can
cause problems or not. Regarding this, some assert that it causes some problems
which result from difficulties of speaking a foreign language. However, I
strongly believe that most people will overcome this language barrier quickly with
their a little effort. In this essay, I will further my argument below.
To
begin with, people living in other countries can easily have difficulties with
this. This is because, most countries have their own language. It is true that
not being able to speak a foreign language can be challenging while living
abroad. It can affect the ability to be socialize or tap into friends even if they
are outgoing people. In addition, it also can dismiss work efficiency because
of the miscommunication by different languages. Furthermore, those people might
go through hard time with even going somewhere to maintain their daily routine
such as going shopping, going to a theater or going to the library. However, I
personally assume that it wouldn’t cause serious problems and language can be
learnt by making an effort.
On
top of that, in my opinion, the easiest way for immigrants to avoid or reduce
those problems by a foreign language is the universal acceptance of English.
According to the research conducted by a linguistic professor in Korean
university, more than 70% people have the ability to speak English worldwide. I
personally believe that English is the only way to communicate with foreigners
in any other countries. For instance, I travelled to Paris where the native
language is not English with my family and we didn’t have any trouble with
communication even though we couldn’t speak French. This is because, we could
speak in English, but also we tapped into the application which is for travelers
who need a help to speak a native language. As the example illustrates, language
is not a crucial serious problem anymore in modern society.
To
conclude, despite various language differences, I believe that it could be
overcome and would not result in serious conflicts or situations. Consequently,
people need to have an attitude to accept and learn different languages and
culture.
