Today, security
cameras have been installed regardless
of the outside or inside. For city dwellers, witnessing a security camera while
walking down a street has become a part of their daily life. Although some
people emphasize more its negative effects on their privacy, I think its
benefits are more significant than the others.
On the one hand,
it is self-evident that CCTVs are built in public areas for the purpose of
crime prevention and safety. However, these cameras are being abused by someone
who has a malicious intention. As a result, cameras which should have been used
for original purpose, are now being exploited by the person to take a peep into
the private moment of other people, which results from indiscriminate
installment of cameras in private places such as public bathrooms or rooms of
accommodations where any kind of fliming equipment should not exist even for
the reason of security.
Nonetheless, I am
personally convinced that the advantages of security cameras would eclipse those
disadvantages mentioned above. Above all, the most remarkable is the effect of
prevention of potential crimes, which would not be feasible without the existence
of those cameras. Imagine if all the security cameras in our city disappear all
at once. The crime rate would necessarily be skyrocketing to the extent that
even people who were negative about these cameras will acknowledge the
necessity of them immediately. In addition, security cameras also play an important
role in solving numerous crime cases by helping the police to identify the
suspects involved, which would have been left unsolved had it not been for the
help of the CCTVs.
In conclusion, I
believe that the side effects arising from the prevalence of security cameras seems
to be relatively insignificant compared to its enormous social profits brought
about by low crime rates of a city.
