Crime is a problem all over the world
and there is nothing that can be done to prevent it. Agree or disagree?
There is a disagreement regarding the issue
of whether or not it is possible to prevent crime. Some people insist that
crime can be reduced in effective ways while others assert that we cannot
prevent to commit crimes. In my opinion, preventing crime is possible using surveillance
cameras and heavy punishment.
First of all, surveillance cameras can play
a crucial role in preventing crime because it records criminal sites and be
used as evidence in law court. For example, after installing many surveillance
cameras on the street corners that has the high rate of crime, it has been
effective to alleviate committing a crime. Moreover, video footage recorded by
cameras can be used as evidence in parking lots, so it is quite effective to
reduce illegal parking. Therefore, it is obvious that installing surveillance
cameras is linked to lowering crime rate.
In addition, imposing heavier punishment on
criminals can prevent crime. It is evident that strict laws and regulations
deter criminals from committing crimes. For instance, Singapore has heavy punishment
in environment, so people comply with the laws. They even do not
indiscriminately throw garbage on the street because they have a fear of
punishment. If Singaporeans offend or violate the rules, they should pay a high
fine or be given by physical punishment. Hence, heavy punishment can
efficiently reduce the rate of crime.
In conclusion, I insist that it is possible
to prevent crime using surveillance cameras and heavy punishment because they
are cardinal ways to control crimes by making criminals hesitate to commit
crimes and planting fear of punishment in people’s minds. Therefore, I disagree
with the opinion that we cannot prevent committing a crime.
