My first encounter of the engineering field occurred while I was serving in the
United States Army stationed in Seoul, South Korea. Upon enlisting in the army, my first task
was to learn the functions of each component related to the military vehicles. My peers seemed to
dislike the texture of fuel and oil. Most people hesitated to touch grease or of similar sorts
when handling the machines. However, neither bothered me. I was truly fascinated by how
various combinations of individual parts contributed to the machine operation. Due to these
experiences as a mechanic, my endeavors of becoming an engineer were further developed.
With the help of the officer in charge, who taught me whenever he had the time, I found
machinery to be extremely intriguing and became competent enough, which allowed me to
work on heavy machines such as tactical vehicles and mobility generators while assisting my
peers.
The learning and understanding of how a machine come together and operates
fascinated me, since nothing ever attracted my curiosity until then. Although my life had
never been associated with vehicle-related experience, my competency improved
dramatically as a result of continued training. Then later, before the military service was over,
I could perform preventive maintenance checks and services on most tactical vehicles that the
battalion owned. As time went on, I wanted to gain more in-depth learning about the
fundamentals of engineering. However, my military lessons were limited to the only unit
assigned vehicles. Besides that, I wanted to learn about bigger figures like an airplane, jet
engine, or helicopter, which are larger figures. To satisfy my interest, University of Texas has
sufficient resources, such as a wind tunnel and a dynamic laboratory, for the people seeks an
engineering knowledge which is unobtainable in the army. In order to satisfy the interest of the
people includes myself, University of Texas has sufficient resources, such as wind tunnels,
dynamic laboratories, and unmanned aerial vehicles, that I want to learn. Those are all
unobtainable in South Korea nor my old military company. Due to that factor, I apply to
The University of Texas which has all academic materials for engineering students.
Lastly, University of Texas (UT) is the finest place to achieve a bachelor’s degree
within best circumstances. UT’s Learning environment has been kept growing and renovating
through Master Facility Plan for Engineering Quadrant. Furthermore, even undergraduate
students lead research in contrast to an ordinary university. According to the UT article, an
undergraduate student-led professor Noel Clemens’ project, the shock wave prediction within
scramjet engine. Rather than a diploma, every student desires experience priorly.
