First of all, the reading passage contends that the dense jungle of the Amazon prevented civilization. It was too hard for people to move around in rain forest because of dense vegetation. However, the lecturer contradict this point by suggesting that there were a great civilization despite of dense vegetation. To support this idea, the lecturer point out that there are satellite imaginary which account for existing of roads and canals. It proves people worked together to build a large society.
In addition, the reading passage contends that the artifacts that have been discovered in the Amazon lack sophistication. Archaeologist found that simple items, such as axes, knives, and arrow heads which indicate that accent inhabitants of the Amazon did not constitute an advanced society. On the other hand, the lecturer contends that it is not true that there were unsophisticated items. To support this idea, the lecturer suggest that Marajo Island had beautiful vases and ceramics.
Finally, the reading passage contends that European expeditions into the Amazon rain forest indicate that no large civilization existed there. However, the lecturer argues that the reason why European explorers have not been located in the Amazon is the region is so vast. |
