▶ Your Answer :
Do you think a ring with luxury diamond is endlessly worthy in your mind? The answer can be different from person to person, but as far as I'm concerned, the value of it would be decreased in human's mind for many people, regardless of its economical worth. Therefore, I firmly disagree with the statement, and the fundamental reasons behind my opinion that people would perceive the long-lasting things as daily items, which was attractive in the past, and short-term pleasures would motivate people to concentrate on their work.
To begin with, although the economical value would be remained, people are more likely to consider that the worth of the good is decreasing because they can always face it daily. It is obvious that the item that lasts long and expensive, such as gems, is really charming for people, so everyone has desire to purchase it at first. However, after buying and encountering it for plenty of time period, people tend to regard it as same as other daily items despite of its absurd high price. This is because human feels the strongest stimulus to get the item when they see thoroughly new thing, which means that the thing lasts long wouldn't be novel and attractive enough to human anymore. In my case, for instance, I bought new baggy pants and shirts from Louis Vuitton because it looked really fancy when I found it. However, I wore them every weekends last semester, and thus, I seldom wear them now because this style is not fresh anymore.
On top of that, short-term pleasures like vacations can grant big motivation for people to work harder. Human tend to exaggerate their happy memories in vacations into much more joyful experiences because they cannot enjoy it everyday and the stress from their work or studying makes their rapture bigger. In other words, spending money on vacations would bestow unforgettable memories to humans, and this would encourage people to work hard again because they have to earn money to enjoy a vacation once again. For example, my father visited New York last year, and this was his first tour to foreign country. Although he spent more than $10,000 in 6 weeks, which can be excessive for most of people, he don't regret his decision because he felt sheer ecstasy when he recalled the memories from the tour. Moreover, he has worked really hard to earn some money to go on a trip to Europe next year.
To sum up, people should invest their money in short-term pleasures such as going on a journey because the worth of long-lasting goods would be decreased and short-term pleasures would become bigger in humans' mind, which induce the concentration on their work. In this regard, without any hesitation, I strongly disagree with the statement.
