The lecturer argues that we still do not know the origin of dogs. This contradicts the reading passage’s claim that dog domestication can be explained.
First, the lecturer contends that people would not have adopted wolves as hunting partners. Ancient people set traps and hid nearby, but wolves chase after their prey. This means that hunting with wolves would have been more difficult for people. Also, it would have been too challenging to teach wolves because they become more aggressive as they age. This casts doubt on the reading passage’s claim that dogs descended from wolves that were trained by people.
Next, the lecturer asserts that the domestication of dogs happened much earlier than 16,000 years ago. Footprints of a boy and a dog were recently found in a cave in France. An analysis showed that they are at least 26,000 years old. This counters the reading passage’s claim that domestication of dogs took place about 16,000 years ago.
Finally, the lecturer claims that dogs were domesticated in more than one place, not only in China. The oldest dog fossils were found in Europe, North America, and the Middle East, in addition to China. Moreover, the DNA of dogs showed that they had four ancestors from different locations. This refutes the reading passage’s claim that dogs spread around the world after being domesticated in China.

Q. The advice of grandparents are useless for their grandchildren since the world is so different from 50 years ago.
Some people who believe that knowing the latest information is the only key to success might say that the advice from their grandparents can be meaningless. However, I disagree with them for two reasons concerning the fact that grandparents have far more wisdom than the young generation when it comes to virtues of life and indirect experience can be helpful for success regardless of age.
First of all, in order to think about the essential factors of life such as human relationship, the young have to follow their grandparents’ advice. In a sense, it is true that the problems their grandparents went through can be very different from the problems at present, and maybe the future as well. However, they already had numerous experience and they know how to overcome difficulties especially related to human relationship. Suppose that your best friend does not want to meet you anymore, do you think that your new smart phone can get your friend back? Or if you have trouble at school, can the comments in websites solve the problem instead? Absolutely not. The most important matter at this point is not having an expensive gadget but sympathizing with friend’s difficulties and knowing how to approach them in an appropriate way. By understanding our grandparents’ lives and absorbing their wisdom people can make more use of their time.
Moreover, as far as being successful in the future is concerned, it is necessary to indirectly learn from those who already experienced so much in life. As one said “A walking dictionary cannot survive in this modern society”, children should absorb their know-how to survive in this society with endless competition. From doing their own business to getting along well with others, there is no greater way than listening to a senior’s advice. A study conducted by the National Statistical Office is a good example of this. The researchers tracked the successful CEOs over a 3 year period, in order to find out the correlation between their mentor and their success. What they found was intriguing. Over 80% of respondents had senior mentors in childhood and they said that they were greatly influential to them. The reason was that with their advice, they could only focus on the future, when others spent a lot of time and effort struggling through trial and error. In other words, taking advice from their grandparents can offer them a variety of experiences which they simply cannot gain on their own.
In conclusion, the experience the old has is becoming more significant with the flow of time because of their wisdom and know-hows to lessen trial and error. Therefore, following their grandparents’ advice is the general rule of thumb to live in this fast-changing society.
