In modern society, the doubt pertaining to the importance of old buildings has been cast. While some argue that long-standing buildings are an integral part of society, I relatively believe that they should be demolished for safer lives of residents.
Regarding positive aspects, advocates contend that old buildings are essential assets which hold many richer glory about their country. For example, the Colosseum in Rome is a typical site to represent brisk history about the era of dominant government. Whenever local people watch this old structure, they could feel some pride and patriotism towards their nation, which is fundamental as the meaning of promoting social cohesion and consolidation.
Nonetheless, I somewhat express concern about maintaining old buildings because a drawback could outweigh the advantage mentioned above. Taking a safety matter into account, it is manifest that the risk of disruption on this kind of building is undeniable. As the corrosion of main skeletons frequently occur, people are always exposed to getting caught into catastrophes like dropped parts of ramshackle buildings. Hence, governments should spend a great portion of budget repairing those structures, which is totally waste of money. Rather, investing this budget in tearing down old buildings and constructing modernized and robust building is more economical as they do not require additional expenditure in maintenance compared to the previous case.
To sum up, although keeping old buildings could become a important role in increasing emotional satisfaction of local dwellers, I believe that old buildings should be supplanted to safeguard people's lives. |
