Most people think that if a university offers one-month
vacation during a semester to their students, they should volunteer for the
city or their own town. On the other hand, I think that taking classes which are not
related to the students' major is better. I believe that this will enhance
their academic background and make their time substantial.
To begin with, students can broaden their view by
taking non-major classes. They are very busy in the semester, because time is
always not enough for students to focus on their major study. One-month break
can be a chance for students to have other perspectives by reading diverse
materials. In these society, various academic knowledge is essential to achieve
success. For example, there is an outstanding social network corporation in
Korea. When the owner started his company, he mixed his business knowledge with
web-design skill. He could make his platform comfortable to use by himself. He
obtained this expertise from extra credit class when he was in the university. Thus, he could get
a huge success.
On top of that, students can do volunteering
work in their semester. It is not such a time-consuming work and investing in
whole one month for volunteering is not efficient. Helping local primary school
children or repairing the elderly’s house takes just few hours. To explain, when I joined a volunteering
club in the university, I went to the national park to clean up every one week.
It was valuable memories per se for me. If I had spent a month on cleaning the
park, I would have burned out.
To sum up, students can have more
productive period by studying other subjects. They can not only develop their
potential, but also manage their time effectively. For these reasons that I
mentioned above, I firmly believe that student should take part in non-major
subject in their given vacation.
