▶ Your Answer :
Some people might think that increasing the
prices of gasoline and electricity is not only way for the government to encourage
energy conservation. However, in my opinion, this perspective is not true for
two reasons. First of all, increasing the cost of them is the most effective
way to make people save energy. In addition, money and time will be wasted to adapt
other things.
To
begin with, energy consumption will be far decreased when the government gives
economical burden to using electricity and gasoline. This is because money is an
important resource and often in short supply to most people. So people will
surely change their habits when money is involved. For example, one incident in
my country can prove my point. In the year 2013, the Korean government passed
the law of taxing for emitting carbon dioxide. This law was intended to reduce
green-house gases for delaying global warming. This law turned out to be a big
success and as consequence succeed to diminish three percent of total amount of
the gas that year. After the implementation of this policy, people began to change
their habitats.
On
top of that, other methods to promote energy conservation need to take lots of
time and money. The frequently-used policy among them is educating people. However,
there is not any effect of educating in short term. Also, it requires a myriad
of money for employing new instructors and educated people’s time. For
instance, when I was a high school student, I had to take a class that teaches
importance of energy conservation per a month. But, despite of the class, the students
aware for energy saving changed much. They are just complained about wasting
time and money. Come to think of it, it was challenging to change people’s mind
just by educating. This shows the typical method of alternating the policy that
increase the price is not useful.
To
sum up, the way to raise the prices is reasonable to change people’s behavior.
Moreover, another method for alternating it is not effective considering time
and money. In this regard, the mounted prices of gasoline and electricity is
the only way for the government to achieve energy conservation for the reasons
I mentioned above.
